Why Americans Are Angry: They Want Shared Sacrifice [New]
Go Bernie, go. Can we draft Bernie to run against Obama in the Democratic party? Honestly, he’s the only politician who says anything, ANYTHING, about the impact of all this debt ceiling hoo hah has on real Americans, the 99% of us who are not millionaires. He even uses the word immoral. Which clearly means Bernie is out of touch.
Excellent smackdown of the media and economists and politicians who are not in touch with real people and what they have to deal with every day. It’s also a rhetorical road map for any real progressive at the federal and state level who wants to win in November 2012, whether running for State Assembly or President or Governor.
From Senator Sanders YouTube Channel.
UPDATE: Kudos to the Wall Street Journal opinion page for publishing a version of Sanders’ speech. If you’re like me and refuse to pay money to Rupert Murdoch, the full opinion piece also is on Senator Sanders’ website. While I doubt his viewpoint will prevail, it’s great to see it get some hearing. Then again, read the comments on WSJ.com and you’ll see there’s a hard core of people who refuse to realize what will happen if the middle class gets wise and, like the rich, also refuse to pay taxes that go to build courthouses, roads, bridges, and all the rest. We’ll see how that works out.

He’s awesome. Then again, it’s so bizarre to me that really all he’s doing is telling the truth. He’s addressing reality. Why is he such a lonely voice when that’s all he’s doing?
I’d love it if he ran, but he’s not a Democrat. The Democratic establishment would treat him like Typhoid Mary. He could do a lot more good in an independent run. He never joined the Democratic Party for a reason: he would have been muzzled.
Just look at how the CPC members are behaving now. They’ve been almost completely cowed at this point.

on the other hand it appears that Bernie is going to vote for the Reid plan, so what good are words when the actions back the President’s wish to Hooverize the economy?

Isn’t this typically the way things work with progressive pols? It’s disappointing in his case and he’s probably going to have to explain that vote when unemployment starts reaching for the stratosphere. But who else are Vermonters going to vote for?
Just as Nancy Pelosi is in front of cameras teling us the GOP “wants to take away your rights,” she also issues a press release calling for an “era of austerity.” An era is typically a longish period, isn’t it?
And Keith Ellison is pushing the CPC budget which promises surpluses. We’ll just put aside that surpluses are anti-growth policies and therefore are not progressive in the least.
We may be seeing complete capitulation from the Dems now.
