Debt-ceiling negotiations [New]

If it was up to me there would be no negotiations, but since there are “negotiations” I found this funny.

What Do You Think?

Pretty good take on the Republicans. The following is about NJ Gov. Chris Christie’s vindictive and capricious use of the line item veto after the Democrats in that state – led by state Senate president and wannabe candidate for governor Sweeney – capitulated on budget and pension “reforms” in that state:
I don’t care whether Sweeney was a victim of the “bipartisanship is date rape” Republican operating principle, or if he went along with it all and now he’s putting on a theatrical display to win back the liberal base.
Sweeney is not the smart fighting progressive that Democrats need in New Jersey to win back the statehouse in 2013. Sign the pledge to support a better candidate in the primaries than Sweeney if you haven’t already.

He mowed down a series of Democratic add-ons…for the working poor…for women’s health care…AIDS funding…mental-health services…added $150 million…wealthiest towns
…
“But don’t be vindictive and punish innocent people.
…
I’m just so angry that he hurt people like this to prove a point. He is a cruel man.”
drop the bullshit sweeney. you knew very well what christie would do. don’t pretenetd you give a damn about the working poor, jackass. he is a cruel man? yes, he is. but you are worse. at least he displays his cruelness. you are hiding it. working poor…
not only is sweeney not a progressive, he’s not a democrat. we must get this jackass out of the nj legislature.

I’d also question whether or not these are negotiations. There is little daylight between Obama and the Republican position. Witness his willingness to gut Social Security through cuts to the SS payroll tax, instead of insisting on applying the tax to all workers, all income including capital gains, as he cut payroll tax. Instead of a neutral result, or providing more funds for Social Security, the net result will be insufficient funds in 20-30 years, certainly less than if Obama had not willingly cut funding.
A real Democrat would have offered a contrasting position early and often. Obama’s position is too muddled with the Republican position on many of these issues. I’d argue this is Kabuki for the rubes. In this case, progressives who might think of voting for Obama again next year.
